Kelly Borsheim, Sculptor, Pastel Artist and Streetpainter
Jun 27th
During my stay in Tuscany, Italy, I was very happy to meet Kelly Borsheim and see her in action on the streets of Florence. When you come to a new town it is almost impossible to see exhibition of pastel works, but thanks to Kelly’s blog post I found about her exhibition in one of the Florence galleries and found out about her streetpainting that day. Click on the image on the left to see how Kelly and her friend Johnny are painting one of the Raffaello’s masterpieces (original painting can be found in the local Uffizi gallery). Kelly is a sculptor, pastel artist and a streetpainter who lives between Florence and central Texas, USA. Her artistic journey and attraction towards her “first stone sculpture teacher”, Michelangelo, took her to Italy and Florence where she spends as much time as she can. Kelly has a very interesting blog and a website and I invite you to explore and enjoy her work on your own.

Rosalba Carriera Pastel Portrait in Uffizi Gallery, Florence
Jun 25th
During my recent visit to famous Uffizi gallery in Florence, Italy, among the old masters like Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raffaello, Tiziano, Botticelli, I found one pastel jewel – the Rosalba Carriera pastel portrait of “Felicita Sartori”. It is in a very good shape and the colors are still brilliant, unlike many other oil and tempera works in the museum. Next to that painting one can find couple of oil paintings by the pastel masters that were already presented on this blog – Jean-Etienne Liotard and Jean-Baptiste-Simeon Chardin.

Featured Pastel Artist: September McGee
Jun 16th
September McGee is a pastel and oil artist from California, USA. Her distinctive style blends Impressionism and Realism and is easily recognized by long strokes on the figure art. Her paintings are full of musicians, rhythm and movement. That seams to attract many art lovers, including me, and is making her award list very long. You have already seen her work on this blog in the Pastel 100 Figure winners. September just attained her second honorable level of signature membership with the Pastel Society of the West Coast. Her first honorable level as a signature member is with the Connecticut Pastel Society. If you are visiting South California stop in Laguna Beach where September is having two-month show all July and August. If you would like to keep up with September’s work you can also follow her on the blog.

Streetpaint Festival: Zagreb Pastel 2010
Jun 7th
You didn’t get news from this blog lately, primarily because I was too busy organizing the streetpaint festival in my city. Since the street painters use soft pastel I consider streetpainting a part of the pastel world although not the main stream.
This was the second edition of the festival and we have had a huge publicity. The festival took place in the heart of city on a beautiful sunny day. The special section where kids could dirty their hands proved to be a big success as well. You can find photos and a short article about the whole event on the ZagrebPastel streetpaint festival site.
